It appears that there is plenty of time each year. You say, I will get over to the lights some time, it comes to October, or even to the beginning of November. Then suddenly the calendar jumps ahead, and all the good holiday light installation slots are eliminated. The rest is a late date or nothing. Finding more about the author at this page!
On more than one occasion I have been guilty of such a mistake. Lateness is not only limiting to what you can do, it completely alters the experience. When the season starts you have your lights on and you are watching your neighbors turn on theirs as you are finding it hard to book someone. It is a small thing, it is still.
Timing is not the only solution, also early booking. It gives you time to ponder what you want. Hasty decision making is more likely to lead to an average configuration-whatever fits the time, whatever is there. You can make adjustments in colors, format, even minor details like how the roofline is outlined or where the accent lights are when you pre-plan.
It also somewhat presents a difference in the manner installers work when they are not under tight schedule. The early part of the season is colder. The crews are not racing along the street of houses and it is reflected finally. Lines are more refined, placements considered. You must feel it however.
Weather also plays a part especially later in the season, towards December. Late installations are typically installed in less than ideal conditions, wind, rain or a combination of both. That is when little things creep in. Clips do not fit too well, wires are being touched rather too quickly. One can evade such strain by doing it earlier.
Previously, I thought that it was not important when the lights were erected as long as they were erected at one time. But this is quite another when they are ready at the start of the season. The house is ready as though it is ready, as though all is prepared before things get hectic.
The other fact that people are not looking forward to is the rate of the disappearance of good time slots. Weekends go first. Then early evening dawns. Before long, you find yourself being forced to choose between embarrassments or lateness than you wish to see. Early bookings are not a time matter, it is a choice.
And when done, you stop thinking about it. None of the availability checks, no last minute calls, no adjustment of the plans. The lights are on, they are operating and you get to enjoy them till the end of the season compared to half way through.
